New Video – and the chance to win a book :)
March 12, 2018 In Blog No Comment

Hi people,

here’s a new video for you that I recently recorded at Onlinelessons.tv. The song in the video is called “Toses”. It’s a half time shuffle and there’s also some New Orleans drumming involved. Drum Solo starts at 2:45 🙂

This track was originally on a CD that I recorded with the Nils Gessinger band from Hamburg / Germany. The original version is a little different from the video: on the original recording, there is no drum solo.

Here’s how you can win a book:
If you leave a comment on YouTube letting me know your favourite part of the song, you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to win one of six copies of “Jost Nickel’s Fill Book”, which contains plenty of fill concepts to inspire you and enable you to understand the essential theory behind them so you can create your own drum fills.

UK Drum Show
February 8, 2018 In Blog No Comment

Hi everybody,
I just wanted to share two videos that were recorded at the UK Drum Show in Manchester in September 2017. Both of these videos were recorded on a Sunday morning at 10 am so I had to get up early to warm up…

The first video is the drum solo I played that morning:

In the second video, I play a song from my band BBFC. It’s called “I hate my baby (and my baby hates me)” and I guess you shouldn’t take it too seriously. Some people felt offended by the lyrics…I just think they’re funny. Well anyway…

Please leave a comment on YouTube if you like the videos.

November 6, 2017 In Blog No Comment

Hi everybody,

I am happy to tell you that my Fill Book is now available in English. It took longer than expected…it had to be translated and printed and now it’s being shipped to Alfred warehouses in different countries.

If you want to order your copy of the Fill Book right now, you can do that in my store and I’ll be happy to sign it for you. Just click here: Shop

We can ship anywhere!

The books you see in this photo have already been sent to the US, the UK, India, Australia, Canada, China, Argentina, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, South Korea, Slovakia, and Poland.

The FILL BOOK comes with an MP3 CD so you can hear many of the recorded fills in different tempos. Additionally, for those fills where you need to see how to move, there are twenty videos online that you can see here: Fill Book Videos

Of course, it will eventually also appear on Amazon – where you can get it without having to pay extra for shipping.

It was Sean’s birthday…
February 18, 2016 In Blog No Comment

“Not all of the students really practise the stuff that I give them. Some just don’t because they have too many rehearsals and whatever. I don’t blame them; I don’t feel offended by that. I know this is good and you can use it, but if you don’t that’s your decision.”

When I was in Canada last December I was interviewed by Sean Mitchell who works for the Canadian online drum magazine “The Black Page”.

You can either read it here or watch the video on youtube.

By the way: It was Sean’s birthday 🙂

Solo Transcription
December 28, 2015 In Blog No Comment

Here’s a transcription of a solo that I played at Mike Johnston’s facility in California a while ago. The transcription is really accurate and quite new so I wanted to share it with you.
The thing is that in the video you don’t hear a solo – instead it seems like I am playing along to a track. But it was a solo when I played it….believe me…I was there when it happened.
The music was added later by a friend of mine by the name of Mark Smith who just did that because he felt inspired by what I played 🙂
Harald Wester who is another friend of mine made the transcription. I hope you dig it!

Jost in Teheran / Iran
November 22, 2015 In Blog No Comment

Iran is certainly not a country that many people travel to, so when you tell your friends that you are going to Iran you often get an interesting reaction to say the least….
I just came back from my first trip to Iran. I was invited to Teheran for two days of masterclasses and a concert.

Despite what most people think about Iran (many people thought it would be too dangerous for me to go there) I had the best time over there.
Everything was perfect. The people I met were some of the nicest people I know, the food was great, the hotel was really good.
I want to personally thank Alireza Tabatabaei, the Arian Drum School and Iranian-Drummer.com for having me!
